gin tree re-brand

Gin Tree re-brand, menu design and marketing material

The Gin Tree re-brand was a great project as it involved working on the overall positioning of the restaurant in addition to creating various assets which included the logo, emblem, menus and digital marketing material.

The brief was to create a design that represented their Mediterranean food offering, while also capturing the rustic and independent vibe of the local business community. The referencing process uncovered some strong examples of modern restaurant branding that were referred to throughout the process, we also looked at introducing some botanical elements to represent the juniper tree and the process that goes into making gin.

The research phase proved to be invaluable when at looking how different restaurants use visual aesthetics to appeal to different groups of people. The owners were keen to elevate the restaurant in line with their new cocktail offering; the menus were striped back by removing all of the food imagery and simplifying the pricing structure which created a more sophisticated feel while still keeping true to the local surroundings and their existing customers.

I created three different designs for the wordmark and emblem based on the brief and references. All were provided with varying degrees of customisation which the client was able to consider before deciding on which route to take.

The finished designs came out well, received great feedback and the owners were extremely happy as you can see from the reference below.

‘Ed has been instructed to work on our last 3 company rebranding projects. We return to Ed because of his creative understanding and interpretation of our brief, the quality of his work and his keen eye for the details, including timelines and budgets. Ed is professional yet approachable and has an enthusiastic and genuine interest in the messages we are looking to convey. A good sense of humour, understanding around changes and quick to advise of the pros and cons, I would not hesitate to recommend Ed’s design and project management ability.’
